6103 AIME AMR/CT : AMR Conformance Test System

The world's first AMR Conformance Test System features:

  • User friendly script driven test scenarios
  • Continuous logging of all layer 2 and layer 3 messages
  • Automatic layer 3 message encoding
  • Protocol regression testing and fault finding
  • Full suite of fully validated GCF approved test cases
  • Full training and support included with each system

The recent introduction of AMR (Adaptive Multi Rate) speech frames presents a new challenge for the GSM test solution provider. Not only must half rate, full rate and enhanced full rate speech frames be created, encoded and decoded, but support must also be provided for eight new full rate coding schemes and six new half rate coding schemes. Additionally, the adaptive nature of AMR must be accommodated. With each AMR speech frame (50 per second) a set of in-band control bits are sent. These allow the current coding rate to be signaled, in addition to requests for changes in the rate of the remote sender. Also, it should be noted that AMR is asymmetric – uplink and downlink coding rates can be changed independently. Additionally, the in-band signaling allows only a selection of four rates from the possible six or eight to be in use at any one time. These four rates are referred to as the active codec set. AMR allows for the uplink and downlink active codec sets to be different. AMR also introduces a new set of DTX frames, very much complicating the whole DTX procedure.

The Aeroflex range of GSM AIME (Air Interface Monitor & Emulator) test solutions may now be complemented with the addition of the AMR AIME option. The capabilities of the AMR AIME test system are as follows:

  • Verification of correct coding of frames by examining data visually at the d interface (8 coding schemes for full rate, 6 coding schemes for half rate).
  • Confirmation of coding of frames and parity (each output polynomial can be separately verified).
  • Verification of correct coding of SID frames.
  • Verification of correct coding of frames associated with DTX.
  • Verification of correct coding of RATSCCH frames.
  • Verification of correct implementation of procedures associated with RATSCCH messages.
  • Confirmation of the correct operation of the adaptive nature.
  • Verification of correct behavior of the receive sub-system when presented with frames with bad CRC and invalid in-band signaling combinations.
  • Verification of subjective operation of codecs (both encode and decode).

AMR Conformance Test

One of the main applications of the AMR AIME/CT system is to perform conformance tests on AMR capable mobile terminals. The AMR AIME/CT provides the core functionality to perform all the relevant tests. For certain tests, additional test equipment is required.

The test scripts required to support these conformance test cases have been pre-written and are grouped into five separate packages, any combination of which may be purchased.
