RACAL ADDS GPRS MOBILE DATA CAPABILITY TO ITS ProCLAIME AIR
INTERFACE PROTOCOL ANALYSER RANGE
Racal Instruments has added GPRS (General Packet Radio Services)
mobile data capability to its comprehensive ProCLAIME range of air
interface protocol monitors and emulators, confirming Racal's position
as a world leader in air interface protocol testing and custom test
solutions. With the falling costs associated with mobile data and
the increasing quality and capability of modern wireless communications
systems such as WAP, Racal expects the market for GPRS technology
to grow significantly, particularly for Internet usage and wireless
data interconnection. Racal's GPRS mobile data, protocol analysis
and test system capabilities are now essential parts of the development,
installation and conformance of the transmission network and its
components, including the subscribers' handsets.
Errors in protocol messages may create major problems within the
networks. GSM-based radio communications systems include many features
that rely on signalling protocol over the air, including data, WAP,
short message services, cell broadcast and facsimile transmission,
as well as simple call setting up and handoff. Racal now enables
GPRS enabled base transceiver station (BTS) and handset developers
and manufacturers to prove their designs and products in order to
present them for approval, as well as confirm their operation with
networks.
The new systems in the ProCLAIME range include the 6103 GPRS AIME
mobile handset protocol test system, the 6113 GPRS AIME mobile handset
emulator and Racal's 2-WAY GPRS AIM RF (air interface) monitor.
Easy to operate with user friendly Windows GUIs (graphical user
interfaces), these new GPRS AIME test systems are based on the current
equivalent GSM test systems, and retain all their original GSM functionality.
Future proof, these GPRS AIME test systems are designed to allow
various enhancements to be offered to meet industry and customer
demands and a full upgrade path is available from all current GSM
AIME systems.
Racal's ProCLAIME range now provides GPRS GSM air interface protocol
analysis, system test, evaluation and support, regression testing
and fault finding, as well as uplink and downlink logging of layer
2 and layer 3 frames for base stations and mobiles, respectively.
As with the other systems in the ProCLAIME range, the new GPRS facility
supports GSM 900, 1800, 1900, E-GSM and GSM-R.
Complementing their service, installation and commissioning test
facilities, Racal's 6103 AIME and 6113 AIME also enable R&D organisations
as well as test and product support departments of network operators'
and manufacturers' to develop a wide range of test scenarios, recreating
specific faults or marginal conditions. In this mode, the 6103 and
6113's powerful protocol generation and analysis capability, in
conjunction with the AIME software package, converts standard 6103
and 6113 units into protocol test systems, RF (Air Interface) protocol
monitors and emulators for R&D, system test, evaluation, validation
and support, including protocol fault finding and problem solving.
In addition, Racal's 2-WAY AIM protocol analyser system, comprising
both 6103 AIME and 6113 AIME with an RF interface module, allows
the investigation of incompatibilities between specific mobiles
and networks.
Other protocol analysers in Racal's ProCLAIME range provide testing
for digital wireless technologies and products such as cdmaOne mobiles
and various satellite ground segment base stations and terminals.
C-AIME (cdmaOne-air interface monitor/emulator) - the world's first
CDMA (code division multiple access) air interface protocol test
system - provides the industry's most cost-effective method of emulating
network conditions in a controlled environment.
Designed for cdmaOne manufacturers and network operators, the
C-AIME protocol test system ensures full compliance for the supplementary
services that will provide the vital competitive edge in the future.
Ideal for research and development, the C-AIME system offers manufacturers
and operators regression testing, conformance and CDG-22 stage 2
interoperability testing of cdmaOne mobiles. In addition, layer
2 and 3 logging, IS95B protocol testing, including handoff and power
control testing are provided.
In addition to its comprehensive range of award winning digital
radio communications test equipment, Racal Instruments is the world's
premier supplier of digital radio base station test systems as well
as the world's leading manufacturer of test systems for the new
and emerging digital radio satellite communication networks.
Racal Instruments manufactures high performance test and measurement
equipment that covers the spectrum from dc to microwave. The company's
test and instrumentation systems are used in a wide variety of applications
in industries ranging from defence and aerospace to automotive and
communications. Racal Instruments is part of the Racal Electronics
Group that has operating companies world-wide.
